LAINGE A LA OUATE DE TOURBE Promotion ad for FRENCH TOILET PAPER, BED SHEETS AND LINEN DRESS This is a poster designed to sell wool fabrics wadding peat - specifically toilet paper and bed sheets.  Found to be an active anticeptic. Design of poster by REGLEY de KOENIGSEGG (1823 - 1904) Count Koenigsegg began a military career in the French navy.  After 3 decades of service, he retired with the rank of Brigadier General and Commandeur de la Legion d'Honneur. Koenigsegg had done drawing and some printmaking in the early 1850's but, after retirement he began a series of minature paintings in ink and watercolor.  They were miniaturized versious of late 19th century French posters (Cheret, Lautrec, Rhead, etc.). At Dusseldorf has been discovered a means of using peat fibre. t is stated that a fibre has been produced capable of being spun, which is absorbent and which can be bleached and dyed.  The vegetable fibres were first Isolated, and treated with acids and alkalis, the result being a peat wool consisting of nearly pure cellulose.  This turf wool is soft, elastic, and capable of being spun in the same way as sheep's wool. With the addition of cotton or sheep's wool, yarn can be spun which is useful for various clothing fabrics.  The quality of absorption which it possesses renders it very suitable for Summer wear and the same may be said for its warmth in Winter. Peat wadding is said to be specially valuable for sanitary and surgical purposes, keeping wounds clean and dry.
